The decision to give nine-year-old Jopa another campaign proved a wise one when he passed $500,000 in prize money with a win at Doomben.
Jopa ($4.20) made it six wins at the Doomben 1350m distance when he got up in the last bound to beat Flamboyer ($3.10) by a short head.
Trainer Robert Heathcote is a fan of Jopa whom he has had for most of the gelding's career which now features 12 wins.
"I always say he is the second best nine-year-old in the stable," Heathcote, also trains ageless sprinter Buffering, said.
"I considered retiring him after his runs in the winter. But then we decided to give him another chance and his runs leading into this were good."
A trip to Newcastle for Flamboyer for the Group Three Cameron Handicap is up in the air despite his fighting second.
"He really had to win today to make the trip but we will decide next week," said trainer Kelly Doughty.
