Top sprinter in raceday treatment probe

Saturday 17 September 2016, 5:33pm

Trainer Con Karakatsanis has found himself at the centre of another controversy with stewards scratching his best horse from the Group Two Shorts.

Howmuchdoyouloveme was withdrawn from Saturday's race at Randwick after the horse was found to have a lump on his neck.

After questioning Karakatsanis, stewards said they could not be satisfied the horse had not received a raceday treatement.

Karakatsanis is operating on a stay of proceedings pending an appeal against a four-month disqualification for improper practice.

Stewards determined five horses in his name were being trained by their owner.

Howmuchdoyouloveme was cleared to run in the 2012 Yellowglen Stakes at Flemington despite Victorian stewards finding tubing equipment in the horse's box.

After that incident Karakatsanis and his father Tony were disqualified after being found guilty of pre-race treatment.

Stewards adjourned Saturday's inquiry with one of the panel accompanying Karakatsanis to check his Warwick Farm stables.
