Sydney visitor Counterattack from the all-conquering Chris Waller stable has met with early support in a Group One race at Caulfield.
The four-year-old shares favouritism for the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes on Saturday with his price trimmed since markets opened on Monday.
Counterattck is one of 17 nominations for the 1400m handicap and shares the top line of betting at $4.60 with Voodoo Lad who is aiming for a third straight win.
Voodoo Lad is prepared by Darren Weir who will be aiming to keep his unbeaten record intact in the Group One races in Melbourne this season.
He won the Memsie Stakes with Black Heart Bart at Caulfield last month and the Makybe Diva Stakes with Palentino at Flemington on September 10.
Imported mare Telopea is Weir's other nomination in the Sir Rupert Clarke.
Black Heart Bart heads the market at $3.20 in the second Group One race on Saturday's program, the Underwood Stakes.
Weir has four of the 16 nominations in the 1800m-race with Melbourne Cup winner Prince Of Penzance, Signoff and Howard Be Thy Name in the mix with Black Heart Bart.
Second pick is Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Lucia Valentina at $3.80 with Our Ivanhowe next at $6.50.
