McDougall fined $200 for social media spat

Wednesday 21 September 2016, 6:21pm

Apprentice jockey Blaike McDougall has landed himself in hot water after using colourful language to respond to a social media message criticising his riding.

McDougall was fined $200 for improper conduct after responding to a Facebook message from a punter who gave him negative feedback on a ride in May.

Because McDougall was not friends on Facebook with the person who sent the message, he saw it on September 13 and decided to fire back.

"I found all these messages and that was probably the nicest one," McDougall said.

"He has probably copped the wrath of the other messages before him."

McDougall said he was on his way home from the races when he saw a raft of messages from people he didn't know.

"There were others that got me going a bit, so I thought I would get stuck back into them," he said.

Steward Phillip Dingwall asked McDougall if he thought the language he used was appropriate.

"It is not particularly pretty," McDougall said.

It's the second time in as many weeks McDougall has found himself answering questions from stewards.

Stipes questioned his vigour on Arise Augustus after the horse was narrowly beaten at Warwick farm last Wednesday following a large betting drift.

That matter is still being investigated by Racing NSW's integrity unit.
