Newcastle trainer outed for six months

Friday 23 September 2016, 6:12pm

Newcastle trainer Jeremy Smith has been disqualified for six months after being found guilty of two separate charges.

On Friday, Racing NSW stewards reconvened an inquiry and found Smith guilty of assaulting another trainer, Michael Dwyer, in April this year.

After handing down a four-month ban, stewards then outed Smith for another two months for giving one of his horses an unregistered product later found to contain Procaine.

Bolwarra Ben suffered an adverse reaction to the treatment.

Smith pleaded guilty to administering the un-named product and also to following Dwyer in his car on April 12 and then punching him.

In January this year, Smith complained to police and Racing NSW stewards he was being targeted after his horse float and other property was damaged.
