Signoff's Melbourne Cup campaign in doubt

Saturday 24 September 2016, 2:55pm

The Melbourne Cup campaign for stayer Signoff is in doubt.

The Darren Weir-trained stayer was scratched from last week's Hill Stakes because of a leg issue and again was withdrawn from Saturday's Harry White Classic at Caulfield.

"Things aren't looking good," Weir said.

"We'll make a decision this week whether we stop.

"I'll have to talk to (owners) Gerry (Ryan) and Sandy (McGreggor) and see what they want to do. It's not looking good but we'll see what happens."

Weir said the stayer was found to have heat in a different leg to the one he injured last year.

"He galloped Tuesday and was fine and then on Thursday he's got a bit of heat back in his leg."
