Fabrizio well backed in Epsom for Gai

Friday 30 September 2016, 3:48pm

Until this week, Johan Victoire has not been a name on everyone's lips.

But if punters are right, the French jockey could be the most talked-about rider at Randwick on Saturday.

Victoire will be aboard Fabrizio in the Epsom Handicap for trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott with the gelding now equal favourite leading into the race.

After opening at $9 on Tuesday, Fabrizio is now at $6 alongside Group One winner Palentino , Hauraki and McCreery.

"This has been a decent push for Fabrizio ever since Tuesday," TAB's Andrew Georgiou said.

"While Palentino has been easily the most popular runner in terms of money taken, constant specking for Fabrizio at what was a good price has seen it join the Weir runner along with McCreery and Hauraki for favouritism."

Fabrizio has 50kg in the Epsom, a weight well within Victoire's range.

Waterhouse has won the Epsom a record-equalling seven times with Bott looking for his first as part of their new partnership.

The ability to ride light has enabled Victoire to pick up another Group One ride aboard Amexed who has 51kg in the Metropolitan Handicap (2400m).
