Moqueen breaks maiden in Dulcify Quality

Saturday 1 October 2016, 3:19pm

It's taken Moqueen eight starts to break her maiden and she has done it in style in a stakes race at Randwick.

The Anthony Cummings-trained filly came from last on the home turn to beat her more-fancied male rivals in Saturday's Listed Dulcify Quality (1600m).

Sent out at $15, Moqueen beat Nemrud ($5.50) by 1-1/4 lengths with another 1-3/4 lengths to Earth ($5.50).

Moqueen is entered in several upcoming feature races in Melbourne with the VRC Oaks a target.

Cummings has always had a good opinion of Moqueen but she hasn't appreciated the wet winter tracks.

"She'll be going down to Melbourne for some of the better races down there," Cummings said.

"We've got a few options with her but certainly the Oaks looms fairly large.

"This is the best track she's been on all preparation. She's sort of scrambled around in a few of her races.

"She had to go to Canterbury and she's got such a long stride that she can't get around there. We sent her to Goulburn for a big track and while she ran well it didn't suit.

"So today is the first time she has been in a race where everything's gone her way in terms of the type of surface we're on, the nature of this track and where she was up to in her prep."

Cummings said Moqueen would run in either the Ethereal Stakes for fillies or Norman Robinson Stakes against the males in two weeks.

If she runs in the Norman Robinson, Moqueen is likely to meet Nemrud again with the Godolphn colt headed to the Victoria Derby.
