No decision on veteran's retirement

Sunday 2 October 2016, 2:44pm

Many horses including four Golden Slipper winners have passed through Clarry Conners' Warwick Farm stable but none have stayed around as long as Decision Time.

And the nine-year-old shows no signs he wants to leave just yet.

The runner-up in the 2010 Golden Slipper has had his share of highs and lows in the years since but is fit and healthy ahead of his next start at Warwick Farm on Monday.

"He's very bright and well and he worked nicely this week," Conners said.

"He's not saying he needs to be retired. He likes the stable life and he is the most popular horse here.

"Everybody loves him."

Decision Time lines up for start No.50 in the Tab.com.au Handicap (1000m) as a $12 chance with Onerous the early $2.90 favourite.

Conners admits it has become hard to find the right races for Decision Time but he is convinced the gelding still has something to give.

"It's hard to place him now because he't not good enough for the better races any more but he gets a lot of weight in a race like this," he said.

"We'll just poke along with him. The 1000 metres might be too short but the blinkers go back on and I'm happy with him and he's a happy horse."

Decision Time will carry 58.5kg with Religify the 61kg topweight.

While he knows Decision Time's racing days are numbered, Conners is looking forward to the return of Dawnie Perfect.

The winner of the Ethereal Stakes in Melbourne a year ago, Dawnie Perfect missed the VRC Oaks with a minor hoof problem.

She wasn't at her best in the autumn and hasn't raced since her fifth in the Queensland Oaks, a race Coinners trained her mother Zagalia to win in 2003.

"She has had a good long spell and looks terrific," Conners said.

"She will have a barrier trial on Friday and be aimed at a race like the Summer Cup."
