Godolphin galloper Chetwood stretched his winning sequence to four with an easy stakes-race win at Caulfield.
Appreciating a fast pace carved out by Sistine Demon, Chetwood didn't let his supporters down under James McDonald in taking out the Weekend Hussler Stakes on Saturday.
Sent out the $1.90 favourite, Chetwood scored a two length win from Rough Justice ($21) with Sistine Demon ($51) holding on for third, a long head further back.
Trainer John O'Shea said Chetwood had progressed through his grades but just how far the gelding stretches into the spring carnival won't be decided until the trainer assesses his recovery.
He suggested a Group Two race over 1200m at Flemington on Derby day or a Group Three 1400m race on Oaks day may be suitable assignments.
"He had a float trip down from Sydney on Wednesday night and there might be one more run in him, but we'll see how he pulls up," O'Shea said.
"We just want to see where he's most effective and we'll see if a straight race at Flemington presents as an opportunity.
"He's getting through his grades nicely and he added another little string to his bow today by taking a sit.
"He had no option but to take the sit and importantly he was strong through the line."
McDonald said Chetwood had continued to mature throughout his campaign and was impressed with how he settled behind the tearaway leader.
"He's a lovely horse.," McDonald said.
