Prince Of Penzance recovering from surgery

Melbourne Cup winner Prince Of Penzance is recovering from surgery on what is almost certainly a career-ending leg injury.

The gelding hurt himself in Saturday's Herbert Power Stakes at Caulfield and needed screws inserted in his off fore leg.

He underwent the operation at the Ballarat Equine Clinic on Monday.

Prince Of Penzance won last year's Cup to give Michelle Payne a famous victory as the first female jockey to ride the winner of the race.
