1992 Caulfield Cup winner Mannerism dies

Tuesday 25 October 2016, 5:37pm

Mannerism, the mare who defeated Veandercross in a memorable Caulfield Cup in 1992, has died at the age of 29.

Trained by Lee Freedman, Mannerism won 13 of her 38 races including four Group Ones but is best remembered for her win over Veandercross.

Jockey Shane Dye controversially scouted a wide course on Veandercross around the home turn and into the straight in the Caulfield Cup only for Mannerism to run him down and win by a short-half head in the soft conditions.

Mannerism had spent her last years at Milburn Creek Stud in the NSW southern highlands looking after weanlings.
