James Cummings wins another Bong Bong Cup

Friday 18 November 2016, 6:24pm

James Cummings has trained his second consecutive Bong Bong Cup winner with Alfred The Great taking out the iconic picnic race.

Cummings won his first Bong Bong Cup last year with Colour Of Money, who, like Alfred The Great, is a son of Pendragon, the foundation sire at Think Big Stud.

Both horses race in the colours of Dato Tan Chin Nam, the owner of Think Big Stud and also the dual Melbourne Cup winner for whom the farm is named.

Ridden by Alan Barton who rides work for Cummings, Alfred The Great beat the Robert Price-trained Tradtri with both horses carrying equal top weight of 68kg in Friday's 1560m-event.

Dato Tan won four Melbourne Cups with Cummings' grandfather Bart who trained 12, but never won a Bong Bong Cup.

Think Big Stud in the NSW Southern Highlands, is eight kilometres from the Bong Bong racecourse which holds one meeting a year.
