Romney's Choice's last-start second as favourite in a Class Four race at Hawkesbury is looking a lot better now with the winner, Circular, backing up her win with success in the Goulburn Cup.
Trainer Noel Mayfield-Smith will bring Romney's Choice from Hawkesbury to Rosehill on Saturday confident she can be a force in a benchmark 78 race over 1500 metres.
She will be accompanied by Unequivocal who ran second to another stablemate, Group One winner Famous Seamus, in the Ladies Day Cup at the Hawkesbury meeting on November 3.
"Romney's Choice will come to town as will Unequivocal," Mayfield-Smith said.
"It looks as of the form from Romney's Choice's last race will stand up. The first three came away from the others."
Reiby Red, who finished third, won a 1600m-race at Warwick Farm last Wednesday by almost five lengths while Sunday's Goulburn Cup was over the same distance.
Unequivocal will run in the benchmark 93 over 1400m.
"She looks better now than she did before her last race," Mayfield-Smith said.
"As long as she goes well again she might go to Brisbane for a Listed race over 1300 metres at Eagle Farm a couple of weeks later."
After his win in the Listed Ladies Day Cup (1400m), Famous Seamus returned to Melbourne to try to defend the Group Three Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1300m).
He finished ninth and his trainer is accepting the blame.
"It was trainer error," Mayfield-Smith said.
"I backed him up too quickly and took him back in distance.
"Every jockey who has ridden him says he is ready to step up in distance."
Famous Seamus will do just that at his next start in the Festival Stakes (1500m) on Saturday week with a view to starting in the Group Two Villiers Stakes over the Randwick mile.
