Volkstok'n'barrell nearing G1 return

Wednesday 23 November 2016, 8:06am

Triple Group One winner Volkstok'n'barrell and stablemate Hasselhoof will have a race day gallop at Ellerslie before they clash in a Group One race.

The two will work out on Saturday ahead of the Captain Cook Stakes at Trentham a week later.

Co-trainer Donna Logan said Volkstok'n'barrell, had recovered well from a stone bruise which forced him out of the recent Group Two Tauranga Stakes.

"He's on the big side and will benefit from the run at Trentham, but he's well in himself and we are pretty happy with him," Logan told NZ Racing Desk.

The winner of the 2015 Rosehill Guineas, Volkstok'n'barrell hasn't raced since he pulled up lame from a Listed race in Brisbane during the winter carnival.

Hasselhoof has had a let-up since his third in the Group One Ormond Memorial at Te Rapa on October 1.
