Fields declared for HK International races

Thursday 24 November 2016, 7:13am

Australian Rebel Dane is among 26 Group One winners confirmed for Hong Kong's showcase International meeting at Sha Tin.

All four winners of last year's Group One races will defend their titles on December 11 with Rebel Dane to take on Peniaphobia in the Sprint (1200m).

Highland Reel will attempt his second Hong Kong Vase (2400m), Japanese champion Maurice lines up again in the Mile and A Shin Hikari, also from Japan, defends the Cup (2000m).

Aerovelocity, winner of the Sprint in 2014, will also be among Rebel Dane's rivals.

The Gary Portelli-trained Rebel Dane earned an invitation courtesy of his win in last month's Group One Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley.

His jockey Ben Melham made the trip from Melbourne to Sydney on Tuesday to ride the seven-year-old in a barrier trial, his final tine-up before he leaves on Sunday week.

Both trainer and jockey were happy with Rebel Dane who won the 1000m trial.
