Valley return for consistent Chiavari

Friday 25 November 2016, 4:36pm

Nick Harnett isn't getting too ambitious with consistent mare Chiavari but will give her every chance to add black type to her record.

Chiavari makes her reappearance in Saturday's MSC Signs Handicap (1000m) at Moonee Valley, the scene of her most recent win in June.

Chiavari's 21-start career has so far netted four wins and a further nine placings with her worst performances on the Flemington straight course.

Her trainer is expecting a forward showing from Chiavari on Saturday, especially with the benefit of Jake Bayliss's two kilogram claim.

"The claim and the draw, it brings her in quite nicely," Harnett said.

"I'm not too sure about the horse of Darren Weir's (Lyuba) but I know my horse.

"It looks a nice race for her to start off in and I think she's been in harder races than this."

Harnett says Chiavari has had a good build-up for her return including a jump-out at Cranbourne last Monday week.

With plenty of suitable mares races approaching, Harnett has no specific plans for Chiavari but is keen for her to get black type before she is sent off to stud.

"We just want to try and get a few city wins and then see if we can get a stakes placing and then hopefully a stakes win," Harnett said.

"We'll just keep her in mares grade for the moment. There's plenty of them around at the moment and then we'll look at the stakes races in the autumn.

"She should get into those with a light weight."

Chiavari is on the fourth line of betting at $6.50 behind Godolphin's Estaminet at $3.20 with Lyuba at $3.50.
