Landmark victory for emerging Qld trainer

Saturday 26 November 2016, 5:25pm

Chris Anderson has confirmed his rating as a trainer of the future in landing his first black-type race with Elegant Composure at Eagle Farm.

Elegant Composure ($8) was given the run of the race before beating the favourite Private Secretary ($2.60) by a length in the Listed Colin McAlpine Memorial on Saturday.

Anderson took special pleasure from the win as he plotted Elegant Composure to wins at her first six starts before she was beaten in Group two company in the winter.

"I know it was only a Listed race today. But it is a real stepping stone for me. I have worked two jobs and have three young kids but owners have stuck by me," Anderson said.

"I said before the race it was Elegant Composure's turn to win and she has done just that."

Elegant Composure will now tackle the Just Now Quality (1300m) at Eagle Farm on December 10 before trying to earn a wild card to Magic Millions day on January 13.

Private Secretary lost no fans coming from last after jockey Michael Cahill went back from a wide barrier.
