Former high class racemare Angelic Light has died at Widden Stud as a result of a bout of colic.

Trained by Robbie Griffiths, Angelic Light almost gave the Cranbourne horseman with his first Group One win when she was narrowly defeated by Lankan Rupee in the 2014 Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Leg problems restricted Angelic Light to 18 starts which netted five wins and a further seven minor placings.

She was retired after running third to Buffering in the 2015 Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Griffiths said Angelic Light was a beautiful mare and a great racehorse.

"We found out about her dying on social media through one of her owners and then we were told second hand that she'd had a colic attack at Widden Stud," Griffiths said.

"She was a young mare that had only recently had her first foal.

"There was a lot of upside to her hopefully reproducing off the track what she did on the track and it's all come to a sudden tragic end."

Angelic Light recently produced a colt by Sebring and was again in foal to him when she died.
