Oscietra a week away from first jump-out

Friday 2 December 2016, 11:17am

Black Caviar's first foal, Oscietra, could make her highly anticipated race debut within weeks.

But that will depend on how the two-year-old filly comes through her first couple of public appearances starting with a Flemington jump-out.

By Exceed And Excel out of the champion mare who was unbeaten in her 25 starts, Oscietra is scheduled to head to Flemington for a jump-out next Friday.

Trainer David Hayes said the filly had a practice session at his Lindsay Park property at Euroa on Thursday and came through with flying colours.

"With our babies they have an education at Lindsay Park so that when they come down here (to Flemington) they don't bomb out," Hayes said.

"She went through the barriers and did everything right."

After the scheduled jump-out, Hayes said he would probably take the filly to Tatura for an official barrier trial.

"It's typical for my stable to give them two trials away from home," he said.

"And I don't want her going into a race not well prepared."

How Oscietra comes through those hit-outs will determine how soon she makes her race debut.

"I'm predicting around Christmas and if it went as hoped, (then) a (Blue Diamond) Prelude," Hayes said.

"Then we'll see.

"She's not physically an imposing specimen but she's got a great action and she's very professional."

If connections want to run her in the Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield in February, she will have to be a late entry.

"She's not entered, so she's got to invite herself," Hayes said.

Black Caviar's wins included 15 at Group One level with Luke Nolen aboard in 22 of her 25 victories.

Nolen rode Oscietra for the first time in trackwork at Lindsay Park on Monday.

Along with Oscietra, Black Caviar has also produced a yearling colt by Sebring and a filly foal by Snitzel.
