Autumn carnival on horizon for Snitzson

Saturday 3 December 2016, 4:13pm

David Hayes has autumn aspirations for Snitzson who has stepped from a maiden victory to winning in metropolitan class race at Pakenham.

Having his third race start, Snitzson won the Wise Choice Catering Handicap on Saturday following a classy ride by Craig Williams.

Sent out a $7 chance, Snitzson scored by 1-3/4 lengths from Ballet Master ($9) with the $5.50 favourite Gratwick a further three-quarters-of-a-length away third.

Hayes said Snitzson would have one more start before being freshened for a tilt at a Melbourne autumn campaign.

He indicated there was a suitable three-year-old race at Flemington on December 17.

"We'll probably go one more with him as he's still learning and then we can put him aside for the autumn," Hayes said.

"He won't go out of work. He'll have one of those rolling English preparations.

"He's got a giant stride and is very progressive and I think he'll be better at a mile."

Snitzson was a $60,000 yearling purchase which Hayes said now looks cheap after Saturday's success.

The senior trainer at Lindsay Park said it was a big step in grade for Snitzson to win on Saturday after his victory in maiden grade at Cranbourne last month.

"It's one thing winning a maiden but it's another thing beating a progressive bunch of young horses which he did today," Hayes said.
