Three hurt in Kilcoy fall

Saturday 3 December 2016, 5:05pm

The Christmas Cup at Kilcoy has been abandoned after a three-horse fall with their riders all taken to hospital.

The race was the main feature on a dual code gallops-harness racing meeting on Saturday at Kilcoy, 80km north-west of Brisbane.

Chief steward Allan Reardon said stewards had spoken with staff at Kilcoy and were told jockeys Gary Geran (Elegies), Jordan Mallyon (The Golden Pig) and Corey Bayliss (Royaltown Road) were injured when their mounts fell.

The fall occurred as the field was entering the home straight for the first time in the 1900m race.

"They were conscious but in pain. They were taken to hospital for observation and further treatment," Reartdon said.

"There apparently was no option but to abandon the race."
