An afternoon of Written records

Written Tycoon

Just when some thought the progeny of Written Tycoon were going a little quiet on the racecourses of metropolitan Australia, no less than four of his own won at city tracks on Saturday.

The haul included two track record breakers and a quinella!

Certainly most impressive was Bjorn Baker’s Winning Rupert at Eagle Farm.

Winning Rupert

The Group 2 winning colt can emulate Capitalist as the catalyst towards another Victorian (and possibly first Australian) sires’ premiership for Written Tycoon.

The Woodside Park stallion pulled in earnings of more than $10 million last season with Golden Slipper & Magic Millions Classic winner Capitalist contributing more than $3.5 million.

Winning Rupert is racing for a possible all-up purse of $1.98 million this campaign after a record-breaking, first-up victory over 1200m at Eagle Farm.

Ridden by in-form jockey Jeff Lloyd, the unbeaten colt sizzled to a front-running 5 length win clocking 69.42s bettering the previous course record of 69.61s.

Trainer Bjorn Baker has always had a huge opinion of the winner who cost $67,500 from Eliza Park at the 2015 Magic Millions QTIS Sale.

“He’s a very promising horse with a motor so fingers crossed,” stable rep Clare Cunningham said.

“Bjorn will have a nice team here for the Magic Millions.  We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves but the bonus is obviously an objective.”

Winning Rupert will claim a $500,000 bonus if he wins at least two of his intended starts in the Listed Gold Edition Plate (December 17), Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (December 31) and Magic Millions Guineas (January 14).

Other city winners on Saturday sired by Written Tycoon were Tycoon Queen (Morphettville)  and Tykiato & Grande Rosso (both Pakenham). He also had a winner at Kilcoy in Sassy Tycoon.

Grande Rosso won the lucrative $130,000 VOBIS Gold Bullion (1400m) in a course record.
