Murt The Flirt is being readied for another crack at a rich Magic Millions race, but trainer Brendan McCarthy is yet to decide which Gold Coast race he will target.
The gelding finished fifth in the 2015 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas and fourth in the Magic Millions Cup in January this year, with both races over 1400 metres.
The $1 million Magic Millions Cup (1400m) is again on the radar but with the Darren Weir-trained Group One winner Lucky Hussler slated to defend that race in January, McCarthy also has the option to run Murt The Flirt in the $1 million Magic Millions Sprint (1200m).
Murt The Flirt won over 1400m at Caulfield two starts ago before being unplaced in the greys race at Flemington on November 3.
McCarthy is looking to start the five-year-old in the Christmas Stakes at Caulfield on December 26 before heading north, but could yet bypass that race.
"After he ran at Flemington he jarred up a bit on the track that day," the trainer said.
"He had a few weeks off, came back and we're very happy with him.
"I'm not sure which way we'll go because I think if we go for the 1400 metre (Magic Millions Cup) we're going to run into a stronger field than if we go for the 1200.
"So I'm playing with the idea of maybe even missing the Christmas Stakes and just going up with him for the Magic Millions 1200-metre race."
