Michelle Payne trains another winner

Monday 19 December 2016, 5:26pm

The horse who gave Michelle Payne her first winner as a dual trainer and jockey licence holder has been successful again.

Only this time she wasn't able to ride Duke Of Nottingham in his win at Echuca.

Payne rode Duke Of Nottingham to win at Swan Hill on November 27, giving the Melbourne Cup-winning jockey a winner with her fifth starter as a trainer.

Duke Of Nottingham contested an apprentices' only race at Echuca on Monday and Payne booked Ballarat-based rider Lucinda Doodt in the 1400m benchmark 58 class race.

"Lucy does a fair bit of riding for me when I need a hand out at home," Payne told racing.com.

"She's a beautiful little rider but she's not getting a lot of opportunities, so I was rapt to give her that opportunity today."

Payne has saddled seven runners as a trainer, registering two wins and a second with her first runner at Warrnambool in October.
