Barrier no bar for Sold For Song

Friday 30 December 2016, 1:36pm

Trainer Kevin Kemp isn't worried by the wide barrier for smart mare Sold For Song as she attempts to earn a Magic Millions day startt.

He is, however, wary of the powerful Gai Waterhouse-Adrian Bott stable which has dual Group One winner Global Glamor in Saturday's Listed Nudgee Quality (1200m) at Eagle Farm.

If Sold For Song wins on Saturday she will gain a wild card to the Magic Millions Fillies and Mares race on January 14 at the Gold Coast.

"She has barrier 16 on Saturday and will at least come in a couple with scratchings. The way she races she can get back and get a cart into the race," Kemp said.

"They seem to be able to do that at Eagle Farm these days and one thing she will be finishing fast."

Kemp is looking to take Sold For Song to Sydney in the autumn and keep her going in the Brisbane winter.

She has a handicap rating of 90 and Kemp is keen to get it higher so she will be able to make some of the better stakes race fields.

"It is a bit of a problem because you don't want her having to hump big weights but you do want to get into the better races," he said.

Kemp believes the inclusion of Group one winning mares Miss Cover Girl and Global Glamour in the Nudgee field will give him an idea where Sold For Song currently sits.

"They are obviously very good horses and will be hard to beat especially Global Glamour. But they have to give us six and five-and-a-half kilos. It is a big ask," he said.
