Col 'N' Lil earns Magic Millions Cup start

Saturday 31 December 2016, 2:33pm

Tiny mare Col 'N' Lil has shown the benefit of a trip to Sydney with a strong win at Eagle Farm to qualify for the Magic Millions Stayers Cup.

Col 'N' Lil ($9) earned a wild card entry to the Magic Millions Cup when she beat the favourite High Church ($1.80) by a length in the $100,000 Shoot Out Quality.

Trainer Ben Currie said Col 'N' Lil ran well in Group company last winter and was ready for a race like the Gold Coast event.

"She didn't run a place in two Sydney starts but she was solid and it got her ready for a tough race like today," Currie said.

Earlier owner-breeder Ross Cutts continued a long history of winning Brisbane feature races when Banda Spice took the $100,000 Summer Provincial Series final.

Cutts had his first stakes win when Regal Advice won the 1983 J J Atkins and has many good horses since including the Stradbroke winner Show A Heart. .

"The Atkins was a Group Two race back then but now it is a Group One. Regal Advice was trained by Kevin Keidge and later went on to win races for Colin Hayes," Cutts said.

"I bought Banda Spice's dam Zilzie and she has been a good broodmare with all three of her offspring winners," Cutts said.
