Most Important wins bonus at Eagle Farm

Saturday 31 December 2016, 5:16pm

Most Important has become the second horse at the Eagle Farm meeting to plunder a $500,000 bonus with his win in the Brisbane summer sprint triple crown.

Earlier on Saturday afternoon, Winning Rupert claimed an identical sum put up by wagering company UBET for horses who could win three designated races over the summer in their categories.

Most Important needed to win the $100,000 Buffering Quality to take the bonus and was sent out the $2.60 favourite and wore down Sydney veteran Ninth Legion ($14) to score by a long head.

Trainer Tony Gollan said he would send Most Important to a spelling farm for two or three days before deciding on his Magic Millions day target on January 14 at the Gold Coast.

"I have him in the Sprint over 1200 metres and the Cup over 1400 on Millions day. I will have a talk with Robbie (jockey Fradd) and the owners before we decide," Gollan said.

"This horse has been so tough and has been in work since June. He had a big hike in the weights today but I knew he would try hard and that is what he did in the final drive to the line."

"He will drop in weight in the Magic Millions race no matter which way we go."

Most Important is owned by Linda Huddy, who is one of Queensland's best known owners.

"Linda and her husband Graham put a lot of money into Australian racing and deserve whatever they get," Gollan said.

Fradd said Most important had shown a big heart to run down Ninth Legion who looked certain to win at the 150m.

"He never knows when he is beaten and he can win a better race," Fradd said.

Damian Browne said Ninth Legion had done a great job because he had raced on the pace at a fast clip.

Monsieur Gustave ($19) led for much of the race before finishing two lengths back in third place..
