Rudy could head back to Sydney

Sunday 1 January 2017, 9:40am

A lack of suitable races in Queensland could prompt Helen Page to take Group winner Rudy return back to Sydney for a short campaign.

The Gold Coast trainer is weighing up her options after Rudy was an unlucky fourth in the Listed Bernborough Quality (1600m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

"It was a very brave run. We decided to ride him forward because of his barrier and the pattern of racing on the day," Page said.

"But he got caught deep and to keep coming like he did in the straight was a very good effort."

Page said there were not a lot of options for Rudy in the immediate future but there was the possibility to freshen him and take him to Sydney.

Rudy has shown he is up to Sydney class by winning the 2014 Group Two Villiers Stakes and running fourth in the 2015 Group One Doncaster Mile.

Rudy finished midfield in last month's Villiers, 3-1/2 lengths from the winner Sense Of Occasion.
