Blue blood breaks maiden status

Monday 2 January 2017, 3:21pm

Blue blood High Wind has continued the good run for owner Linda Huddy and trainer Tony Gollan by breaking his maiden status at Doomben.

High Wind is by High Chaparral out of Pentamerous making him a full brother to the Huddy-owned 2010 Australian Derby winner Shoot Out.

The gelding had run three minor placings at his previous 10 starts and came with a long sweeping run to win a 1640m-maiden on Wednesday.

Huddy and Gollan have had a good summer especially with Most Important who picked up a $500,000 bonus on Saturday for winning the three legs of the Brisbane summer sprint crown.

Gollan isn't getting carried away with future races for High Wind but was very pleased to see him win.

"He has been a slow maturing horse but this is the first time we have had him for a full preparation," Gollan said.

"I have done a few different things with him and I won't be afraid to step him up in distance. He can win a few more races."

Fellow trainer Steve O'Dea is looking to the winter with two-year-old Chappo ($1.30) who made his debut with an all-the-way win.

"He is a very well bred horse by Fastnet Rock and he will be even better after a break. We hope he makes a nice winter horse," O'Dea said.

Chappo is raced by O'Dea's main clients the Aquis Farm syndicate

Smart mare Queen Tara ($2.70) continued the golden run of jockey Jeff Lloyd and trainer Toby Edmonds when she led all the way to win the Class 4 (1200m) at the Doomben meeting.
