Chris Waller pays tribute to Shoot Out

Wednesday 4 January 2017, 3:58pm

Champion Sydney trainer Chris Waller has paid tribute to multiple Group One winner Shoot Out who has died aged 10.

Raced by Graham and Lindy Huddy, Shoot Out started his career with trainer John Wallace who prepared the gelding until the end of his four-year-old season with the highlights his Group One wins in the Rosehill Guineas and Australian Derby as a three-year-old.

He then joined the Waller team in Sydney and added three more Group One wins in the 2012 and 2013 Chipping Norton Stakes and 2012 George Main Stakes, before being retired after the 2013 George Main Stakes.

Linda Huddy told Radio TAB Shoot Out was showing symptoms of colic on Tuesday and during surgery he was found to have a tear in his diaphragm which was inoperable.

Waller said it was a privilege to be part of Shoot Out's life.

"He was a very good horse. I can only take claim for the second part of his career but prior coming to me he was a superstar," Waller said.

"I was lucky enough to be involved with him at the end of his career.

"He was a tough horse. One of those old genuine weight-for-age horses. He was unlucky not to have won a few more. He carried big weights in Doncasters and ran into good horses and always ran a good race.

"You always wish you had a stable full of horses like him."

Shoot Out finished his career with 10 wins and 11 placings from 37 starts, amassing more than $3.2 million prize money.
