Melbourne Cup runner-up ready for return

Sunday 8 January 2017, 8:24am

Melbourne Cup runner-up Heartbreak City could have his next start over hurdles with Irish trainer Tony Martin flagging a return at Leopardstown.

Heartbreak City won two races over jumps before his Ebor success followed by his close second to Almandin at Flemington in November.

Martin said the Coral Hurdle on January 22 had been pencilled in as a possible start to his next campaign.

"We are thinking of going for the Coral Hurdle at Leopardstown," Martin said.

"We will have to talk to the other owners in Australia but that is the plan at the moment.

"He's had a little break after the Melbourne Cup but is ready to go now."
