Smart-two-year old Snitzkraft missed Magic Millions day but has shown he is a winter carnival hope with a runaway win at Doomben.
Snitzkraft ($1.30) gave jockey Luke Dittman an armchair ride to score by 8-1/4 lengths in Wednesday's QTIS Two-Year-Old Plate (1200m) at Doomben.
The Snitzel colt was bred by his owner Mick Power but passed in at the Magic Millions sales last year.
Trainer Kelso Wood said an administrative oversight meant Snitzkraft was not paid up for last weeks' Magic Millions Classic.
As it turned out Snitzkraft would not have had enough prize money to make the Classic field.
At his first start he crossed from the outside barrier to lead but was run down on the line by Ours To Keep.
He then started favourite in the Group Three B J McLachlan Stakes but from a bad barrier was trapped deep and dropped out in the straight to finish last.
"He finally had some luck today and you saw what he can do. I think he is a real winter carnival feature race horse," Wood said.
"I will run him in a two-year-old race at the Sunshine Coast in a fortnight and go from there."
