Stable trifecta at Doomben for Tony Gollan

Wednesday 18 January 2017, 5:24pm

Tony Gollan's pre-race tip has been proved correct with centimetres separating his three stable runners in a maiden at Doomben.

Luna Fiore ($10) beat Scarlet Begonias ($3.80) by a nose with Don't Tell Da Wife ($3) completing the Gollan trifecta a short half head back.

Gollanpredicted the trio would go close to winning in pre-race interviews and those who listened were rewarded with a $203 trifecta dividend.

"It was not my first trifecta on a metropolitan track as I had the first three across the line in the (Group Three) George Moore Stakes here two years ago when Didntcostalot, beat Gundy Spirit and Fontelina," Gollan said.

"We put blinkers on Luna Fiore and decided to ride her forward. She will win a better race at 1600 metres."

Gollan was equally pleased with the win of Vienna Queen ($3.20) who took the Class 5 (1050m).

"She is a Saturday horse who has been very good for us and not many horses win six races anywhere and she has done that," he said.

Gollan was also tipping a big future for his third winner of the day, Sentimental Prince ($2.80).

"I think once he gets out to 2000 metres you will see a really good horse and a race like the Toowoomba Cup isn't out of the question," Gollan said.

Trainer David Vandyke has winter carnival plans for Deep Image ($1.14) who was a comfortable winner of a 1350m-maiden.

Deep Image, who was scratched from the Magic Millions maiden last Saturday, had run second to star colt Winning Rupert at his only other start.

"It was good experience for him to win today and he will have a break now to come back and run in some of the better three-year-old races in the winter," Vandyke said.

Asked about reports Deep Image could be sold to Hong Kong he said there was nothing definite.

"But if the money was right he could be for sale and the phone is there," Vandyke said.
