Muddy Rope coul face biggest test

Thursday 19 January 2017, 4:01pm

Trainer Chris Anderson is torn between testing unbeaten gelding Muddy Rope against top company at Eagle Farm or tackling an easier provincial race.

Anderson accepted with Muddy Rope, who has won his only two starts at the Sunshine Coast, for Saturday's QTIS Three Year Old (1200m) at Eagle Farm.

He has also entered Muddy Rope for a race at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday as a back-up.

Muddy Rope got his unusual name through his part owner Dean Miller, a Brisbane television identity who is an avid fisherman.

Muddy Rope is by Hinchinbrook which is also the name of a popular fishing and crabbing area north of Brisbane.

"He is also out of a Clay Hero mare and Dean felt Muddy Rope was the obvious result of clay and crab pots," Anderson said.

Anderson has a high opinion of Muddy Rope but wonders if he is over-matching him on Saturday.

"It is a very good race on Saturday. Really we do have some very good three-year-olds in Brisbane and Mick Price's filly Alter Call is obviously pretty smart," Anderson said.

"It is tempting to try him just to see how far he has gone. If we are going to talk about the winter carnival we will have to find out sooner or later."

"But I will have to assess both fields for the weekend and see what the owners want to do."

Anderson has booked in-form apprentice Tiffani Brooker for his other runner Mishani Sleuth in the Eagle Farm race.

"I didn't know if Ringo's A Rockstar would accept and if he didn't we would have gone up two kilograms," he said.

"As it is we will need every bit of luck we can get so Tiff's claim will be a benefit."
