Edmonds eyeing Oaks mission for Ahndras

Sunday 29 January 2017, 4:02pm

Improving filly Ahndras is showing trainer Toby Edmonds all the signs she can be a Group One contender this year.

Ahndras was having only her fourth start and her third for Edmonds when she won a Three-Year-Old (1600m) at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.

Edmonds believes she is an Oaks standard filly but is undecided whether it is the Australian Oaks or the Queensland Oaks.

"I am keeping our options at the moment," Edmonds said.

"She has been up for a while and she might need a break soon. That would mean the Queensland Oaks, but she will let us know."

Ahndras went from winning a Doomben maiden to beating a smart field on Saturday, impressing her jockey Jeff Lloyd.

"I circled the field to avoid any trouble at the top of the straight and she showed a good turn of foot," Lloyd said.

The win continued the outstanding season for the Lloyd-Edmonds combination.

They finished the day with 13 winners from 22 runners at the Sunshine Coast for the season.

Their overall strike rate is also exceptional as they have combined 91 times for 34 winners and 21 minor placegetters.
