Tommy Berry wins Hong Kong Group One race

Tuesday 31 January 2017, 7:29am

Sydney jockey Tommy Berry has made a successful hit-and-run Group One mission to Hong Kong to win the Stewards' Cup on the John Moore-trained Helene Paragon.

The favourite in Monday's 1600m-race, Helene Paragon had to force a path in the straight to get home by three-quarters of a length from Joyful Trinity with Able Friend third.

Moore plans to take Helene Paragon to Dubai for the Group One Dubai Turf (1800m) at Meydan on March 25 after next month's Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup (1400m) at Sha Tin.

With the Sydney autumn carnival in full swing, Berry is unlikely to be available for Dubai.

"We have an international entry in the Dubai Turf but that's a big race-day in Australia so I'm not sure if Tommy will be available, but Joao's (Moreira) ready and waiting for the call-up," Moore said.

Young Sydney jockey Sam Clipperton continued his stellar first season in Hong Kong with a treble including the Chinese New Year Cup on the Moore-trained Invincible Dragon.
