Alpine Eagle to stand at stud in Tasmania

Tuesday 31 January 2017, 5:50pm

Former boom colt Alpine Eagle will begin stallion duties this spring in Tasmania having been secured by Armidale Stud.

Alpine Eagle was trained by Tony McEvoy during his 12-start career which netted four wins including the Group Two Autumn Classic at Caulfield in February 2015.

A week later he backed up to finish second in the Group One Australian Guineas at Flemington, won by Wandjina.

Alpine Eagle was retired after finishing unplaced in the Listed Tokyo City Cup in September last year.

Armidale Stud announced this week they had secured the horse who will stand his first season at stud in 2017.

"Alpine Eagle ticks all the boxes for us," Armidale Stud's David Whishaw said on the stud's website.

"He has the pedigree being by influential sire High Chaparral and out of Zephyira who is a daughter of champion broodmare sire Zabeel.

"He has stunning good looks and a race track performance that you can't help but get excited about."
