Jim Byrne's winning ride on Don't Doubt Da Wife at Doomben has shown why he will be a big loss to Brisbane racing if he accepts an overseas contract.
Byrne is remaining tight lipped about the offer which is believed to be to ride in Mauritius in March.
"There is nothing definite. We have a few things to discuss just yet," Byrne said.
Byrne has been back in top form in recent weeks and with the win moved to 71 overall winners and 39 in the metropolitan area for the season.
Don't Doubt Da Wife ($2.90) had a wide barrier in Wednesday's 1600m-maiden with Byrne giving the filly the run of the race.
Trainer Tony Gollan praised Byrne's ride and said he had been waiting to get Don't Doubt Da Wife out to the distance.
"She is well bred being by Snitzel and her mother's side is stout. I will run her in a Saturday three-year-old at 1600 metres in two weeks and she won't be fara way at the finish," he said.
While Byrne showed off his vast experience, Gold Coast apprentice Noryuki Masuda rode his second metropolitan winner when Star of Night ($6) won the Class Three (1200m).
Masuda is apprenticed to Star of Night's trainer David Kelly and hopes to get more chances in Brisbane.
"I ride work for Mr Kelly and then any other trainer who needs me. Star of Night was down in class today from her last start in the Magic Millions mares race," Masuda said.
One Golden Day continued her liking for Doomben when she an a class record of 1.9.96 in a 1200m-maiden.
"She has had four previous starts at Doomben for four minor placings so it is good to get a win,' trainer Chris Anderson said.
