Red Hot Miss in Eagle Farm upset

Saturday 4 February 2017, 3:01pm

Toowoomba filly Red Hot Miss has taken the shine off several boom horses with her strong win over 1000 metres at Eagle Farm.

Red Hot Miss ($12) burst through in the final 100 metres to beat Pinstryke ($14) by a half-length with a length to third-placed Beraht ($6).

Several first starters were well-supported including Trestrail who was backed from $2.60 to $1.75 but faded to run second last.

However, trainer Tony Sears was confident about Red Hot Miss, another first starter, who had won three jump-outs at Toowoomba.

"She beat my older smart short-course horse I Am Boss in one of them so I knew if she ran up to that she would be hard to beat," Sears said.

"Red Hot Miss was bred by her owner Nicola Williams who spells all of my horses for me. I am really happy for her because she has picked up $65,000 today with bonus payments on top of first prize."

Sears said he would now probably step Red Hot Miss up to 1200m in the coming weeks.

The early part of the race was marred when James Orman was tipped off Princess Cavallo but he was able to walk back to the enclosure.

Fellow jockey Andrew Spinks brought up a rare family double when he scored back-to-back wins on Morendi ($4.60) in the Benchmark 75 (2212m).

His son Adam Spinks rode a winner at Dalby only minutes earlier on Big Britches ($25).

"Adam is coming along nicely and has only just got his provincial A licence which means we will keep him at the provincials for about another 12 months," Andrew Spinks said.
