Comeback jockey Ron Stewart has picked up a replacement ride to knock punters for six by winning on outsider Colour Charge at Eagle Farm.
Stewart gave Colour Charge ($61) the run of the race and grabbed the heavily backed Hudson County ($4.40) by a neck in Saturday's Open Hcp (1600m).
James Orman was to ride Colour Charge but couldn't make the weight.
Stewart, a former Sydney apprentice premiership winner who has ridden in four countries, is gradually been building up a following after returning from a year off to get a helicopter's licence.
"I am starting to get more rides and getting winners is the best advertisement," Stewart said.
Colour Charge's win was a boost for trainer Natalie McCall who has also been building up her team in the past six months.
"I have 18 in work now after having a bit of a clea- out. Colour Charge is a good old boy and he deserved an open company win in Brisbane," McCall said.
"He hates Doomben so when Eagle Farm was closed we had no where really to go. He also missed a lead-up to this race when he didn't get into the Sunshine Coast Cup at 1400 metres, so we had to go in on two 1200metre runs."
McCall won the Group One 2014 Stradbroke Handicap with River Lad but scaled back slightly after that to help her father Ray McCall who was ill.
Some race day gear helped two of Queensland's biggest owners Mike Buys and Robert Willis get a double when Hotel Coste ($18) won the Class 3 Plate.
Trainer Bruce Hill bought the now four-year-old as a yearling for Buys and Willis and said it had taken a long time to get the gelding to concentrate in his races.
"We have tried different things and we had a head band on for his last two starts which has helped. He will win a better race," Hill said.
Buys and Willis also had an earlier winner in the Tony Gollan-trained Dee Nine Elle (3.60) who was having her second run back in Queensland after racing in Sydney.
"It was an easier race here where she got in well under the weight scale and was then able to get an early lead," Gollan said.
