Dunn to rely on Perfect Dare in Cship heat

Sunday 5 February 2017, 2:11pm

Trainer Matt Dunn is likely to rely on in-form Perfect Dare as his runner in the the Country Championship heat at Grafton.

Dunn indicated he could nominate impressive Eagle Farm winner Quatronic for Sunday's Grafton race in which the first two qualify for the final at Randwick during The Championships.

"At this stage I think it might be too soon for Quatronic.. He is a hard horse to keep condition on which restricts his campaigns," Dunn said.

Quatronic ran slick time to win Saturday's Class Six (1000m) and he is more likely to return for a race in Sydney where he won last campaign.

Perfect Dare ran a nose second in the recent $1 million Magic Millions Cup in a deceptive finish.

"The Country Championship heat is a Class Five race but the set weights conditions means Perfect Dare gets in very well and the 1400 metres is ideal for him," Dunn said.

Perfect Dare has won $354,000 prize money and is certain to get a run in the $150,000 Grafton race, the first regional heat of the Country Championship.

Dunn has ordered a thorough examination of Trestrail who finished second-last in 1000m-race for two-year-olds at Saturday's Eagle Farm meeting after being backed into $1.70 favouritism.

"She is much better than that and maybe the track was too hard as she didn't seem to stretch out. Anyway we will have to find out what went wrong," he said.
