Hugh Bowman has made a left-field call on a heavily backed but well-beaten favourite that could result in two James Cummings stablemates racing twice in three days.

As Plymouth Road ($5) defied his rivals to lead all the way at Warwick Farm on Wednesday, stablemate Most Exalted finished a long last as a $2.10 chance.

Plymouth Road and Most Exalted are acceptors for the Open Markets & BYMG Handicap at Randwick on Saturday and Cummings is giving serious thought to at least sending the winner around against stronger opposition

"He's going to strike another wet track and it's going to take a fit horse to run at Randwick in the heat but we'll assess him first and go from there," Cummings said.

Unbeknown to the trainer, Bowman told stewards he would also suggest Most Exalted join Plymouth Road at Randwick despite finishing more than 13 lengths behind his stablemate.

Bowman said Most Exalted, a last-start winner at Canterbury, had looked after himself in the run and he had trouble in pulling the stayer up after the finishing post.

"The horse just didn't chase. He just didn't take part," Bowman said.

"He didn't feel comfortable in the ground although his form suggests he likes it.

"And when he wasn't comfortable I found it hard to get him to compete.

"He pulled up well. I see he has accepted for Saturday and my recommendation would be for him to run but I haven't spoken to James because he was looking after the winner."

Plymouth Road has been penalised 1.5kg for holding off El Novio in the TAB Rewards Handicap (2400m).

It was a return to form for the OTI Racing-owned stayer who was having his second run for Cummings and was ridden by Glyn Schofield

Cummings said the New Zealand-bred had improved in trackwork since finishing fourth at his Sydney debut last week.

"We've given him some good, strong staying work at home and he's responded."

Most of the Warwick Farm meeting was run on the heaviest-rated surface after early-morning showers and more rain in between the first two races.

Because of a downgrade, stewards were forced to deal with several high-profile scratchings headed by Godolphin pair Saxaphone and Philosophy.
