Fuhryk dominant in Kevin Hayes Stakes

Saturday 11 February 2017, 4:21pm

Fuhryk has put herself in the frame for an Australian Guineas start with a dominant Group Three win in the Kevin Hayes Stakes at Caulfield.

The filly's win in the 1200m-sprint on Saturday gave Craig Williams his third straight victory of the afternoon following his wins aboard Catchy and Property in the divisions of the Blue Diamond Prelude.

Williams had the $2.40 favourite positioned just behind a solid pace before easing her into the clear early in the straight.

She ran home to post a two-length win over Oregon's Day ($11) with Savana Amour ($12) a long neck away third.

"She was good today. She got back to her pet distance of 1200 metres and I had a lot of horse for the whole race," Williams said.

"When she got clear I was really pleased with her acceleration.

"She was dominant."

Lindsay Park senior trainer David Hayes said the stable believed Fuhryk would be an even better filly when she stepped up in distance.

After claiming her first stakes win on Saturday, the filly will head to Group Two Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 25 and if successful, could back up in the Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington the following week.

"The stable feels when she gets up to 1400 metres and a mile that he'll be at her best," Hayes said.

"It looked that way at the finish.

"It was quite a dominant win."
