After Malaguerra's unplaced finish in the CF Orr Stakes, the dual Group One-winning sprinter will be freshened and aimed at the TJ Smith Stakes.
Malaguerra resumed to win the Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley last month before finishing sixth as the $3.80 second favourite in Saturday's Orr over 1400m at Caulfield.
"Update on Malaguerra - He will be freshened and set for the TJ Smith Stakes in Sydney during The Championships," Manny Gelagotis, racing manager for his brother Peter, posted on Twitter.
Malaguerra won the Group One BTC Cup over 1200m last season when trained by Lee and Anthony Freedman.
He added the Group One Darley Classic at Flemington after being transferred to the Gelagotis stable at Moe.
Bookmakers have Malaguerra at $15 for the $2.5 million TJ Smith (1200m) at Randwick on April 1.
