Geoff Goold has continued his impressive recent strike-rate in metropolitan races aboard two-year-old Starena at Doomben.
Goold made it five metropolitan wins from his past 12 rides when Starena ($4.20) grabbed the leader Not So Wild ($15) on the line in Wednesday's QTIS Two-Year-Old Plate (1200m).
Starena gave trainer Mark Webb two juvenile winners in a week and picked up $23,000 in prize money and bonus payments for owner-breeder Alan Newcombe.
"It shows the value of the QTIS bonus and fillies bonus system in Queensland. You can nearly double the prize money on offer," Webb said.
"It is great for Alan who breeds his horses."
Newcombe also bred and races Acceptile who won at Eagle Farm last week.
Starena was Goold's only ride for the day and the win was added to his recent city wins on Arki (three) and Time To Torque.
"I don't know why Geoff doesn't get more rides. He has a great strike rate with me and I used to put him on when he was a kid in Toowoomba where he rode a stack of winners for me," Webb said.
