In Her Time adds Millie Fox Stakes to haul

Saturday 18 February 2017, 5:53pm

In Her Time's sudden emergence as a Sydney benchmark for sprinting mares may not be enough to convince her trainer to go deeper into the autumn.

In Her Time defeated a Group Two field of mares for the second time in as many starts, but Ben Smith revealed he had not even thought beyond the Millie Fox Stakes.

Typical of her racing style, In her Time ($7.50) made her own luck on the speed before scoring a 2-1/4 length win over the favourite Euro Angel ($4.60) at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Millie Fox over 1300 metres is programmed as a lead-up race to the Group One Coolmore Classic (1500m) but Smith is non-committal about a start for In Her Time, a four-year-old who has stretched her winning sequence to four.

"I hadn't given it much much thought but I suppose we might reassess," Smith said.

"Then again she's not really bred to get much further. She's more from a running family.

"There are a few things to think about and we could even give her a let-up."

Josh Parr had ridden In Her Time in barrier trials but the Millie Fox was his first sit on her under race conditions.

The jockey, who is making an excellent fist of a comeback after being sidelined for much of 2016, stuck to the script that has worked in most of In Her Time's six wins.

"We just told Josh to ride his own race and let her slip around the turn and see if the others were strong enough to chase her down," Smith said.
