The return to the winner's circle of classy filly CANDIKA at Eagle Farm Saturday crowned a sparkling run of victories through February for PROVEN THOROUGHBREDS.
The Sebring 3yo filly (100k MM GC 2015) looked exquisitely placed in the set weights C3 of 1500m and she duly landed the money under a confident ride from Robbie Fradd in a great result for trainer Steve O'Dea who also prepared the 3rdplacegetter and first & fourth in the subsequent race.(Candika pictured)
The burst of half a dozen wins for the lime green & black began on February 7 at Newcastle. SO YOU THINK 3yo SO SPIRITED (150k MM GC 2015) found plenty when challenged under Kerrin McEvoy to knock off his maiden status following 4 prior attempts. Trainer Joe Pride predicts a handy future for the grey who'd put the writing on the wall with a fast finishing 2nd first up at Wyong.
Three days later hot favourite CANNON RUN (60k INGLIS Easter 2014) prepared by John Thompson, recorded his second victory in just 5 starts when urged home by Jason Collett in the 1500m C2 at Goulburn.
Then it was up to the Sunshine Coast 48 hours later where the unlucky REALLY REILLY (100k INGLIS Easter 2013) from the Steve O'Dea camp, broke through for his fourth career win.
Joe Pride had high expectations for TAMARACK (90k KARAKA 2015) when he saddled the gelding at Newcastle Thursday after he'd turned in a slashing debut second at Wyong a couple of weeks earlier.
The REDWOOD 3yo didn't disappoint belting his rivals by 3.5 lengths despite being off the bit coming to the turn in the 1350m Mdn. Both Joe & rider Brenton Avdulla have healthy opinions of this horse who looks destined for bigger things.
The Pride stable was again to the fore at Canterbury Fri night when another promising 3yo, ARGENT D'OR (150k MM GC 2015) came from 4 lengths off the second last horse to gather in his rivals in the B67 3yo event over 1200m.
The SEBRING gelding had failed to build on his debut victory at Kembla last winter in 5 luckless outings. But a freshen up, shedding of the blinkers, a wet surface and most importantly a decent tempo, induced a decisive return to form.
It’s been a cracking start to 2017 for PROVEN THOROUGHBREDS. The six FEBRUARY wins increases the tally to 10 since JAN 1 including SIR MOMENTS’ triumph in the LISTED SUNSHINE COAST Cup on JAN 28.
