Sold For Song tunes up for Coolmore

Sunday 5 March 2017, 3:41pm

A rousing track gallop by classy mare Sold For Song has convinced her trainer to take her to Sydney for the Group One Coolmore Classic at Rosehill.

Sold For Song is back in Toowoomba after finishing fifth behind In Her Time in the Group Two Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) at the same track on February 18.

Kevin Kemp was in two minds about returning to Rosehill for the Coolmore until he sent Sold For Song out for a track gallop on Saturday morning.

"She really impressed me with the way she went about her work. I think she is ready to tackle the top horses in the Coolmore," Kemp said.

"So we will accept in the Coolmore with her and just hope we get a run."

Sold For Song has earned $391,450 prize money which is a great return on her $2500 purchase price.

"It puts her on the border of getting into the Coolmore. Hopefully, it will fall away a bit," Kemp said.

He said Sold For Song had proved a very good traveller and he had no worries about heading to Sydney again for Saturday's race.

"She ran well in Melbourne and when she got home I put her in a paddock on my property and she ran around for a few days," Kemp said.

"As it turned out she did too well and I had to bring her back in and run her at Caloundra. She wasn't suited the way the races were being run at Caloundra so I ignored that effort and gave her a start in the Millie Fox."

"I thought she ran really well in the Millie Fox and that has topped her off nicely."

Kemp hopes to secure veteran jockey Robert Thompson for Sold On Song.

"Robert rode her in the Millie Fox and was keen to get on her again," he said.
