Boom Time chases Australian Cup dream

Monday 6 March 2017, 5:00pm

Numbers have fallen for Lindsay Park in the Australian Cup at Flemington with the stable left with one runner.

Boom Time will be its representative in Saturday's 2000m weight-for-age Cup as he looks to give the stable its second win in the race in the past three years.

Spillway and Extra Zero ran the quinella in 2015.

The stable also had Almoonqith, He's Our Rokkii, Seaburge and Pilote D'Essai in the list of 27 horses paid up when first declarations closed for the race.

Boom Time earned his chance at the Group One race with his victory in the Listed Mornington Cup Prelude at Caulfield on February 25.

It was Boom Time's first run since his fifth to Stratum Star in the Magic Millions Trophy at the Gold Coast in January.

Co-trainer Tom Dabernig said Boom Time had remained in work following his Gold Coast performance and had freshened up with time spent in the paddock during the day.

Extra work has been given to Boom Time since his Caulfield win.

"He's coming along really well," Dabernig said.

"I think he's improved on his last start and is deserving of his chance."

Stablemate He's Our Rokkii is heading to Sydney on Saturday to run in the Ajax Stakes at Rosehill where he will join stablemate Dibyani.

In two starts at weight-for-age this campaign, He's Our Rokkii has been comfortably beaten by Black Heart Bart at Caulfield.

He finished a first-up eighth in the C F Orr Stakes before running seventh in the Futurity Stakes on February 25.

Dabernig said the stable was happy with He's Our Rokkii's latest performance and looking forward to seeing him back in Sydney where he was successful last autumn at Randwick.

"He's had two starts in Sydney for two wins and likes the wet," Dabernig said.
